An educational project of the temple

A place for anyone in Singapore who wants to widen their knowledge of Buddhism through structured, tertiary-level study.

The Buddhist and Pali College of Singapore was set up in 1993 as an educational project under the guidance of Venerable M M Mahaweera Maha Nayaka Thero. It serves, in the College's own words, “Singaporeans who eagerly seek ways to widen the horizon of their knowledge of Buddhism”, with courses ranging from a first introduction to Buddhism through to Master's-level degrees.

The College began in 1993 as a project of its own, separate from the temple's Sunday Dhamma classes, so that adults could take up a structured, tertiary-level path into Buddhist Studies. It continues today under the guidance of its Principal, Ven. Dr. P Gnanarama Nayaka Maha Thero.

Classes are open to anyone in Singapore keen to study Buddhism formally, from a first introduction through to Master's level. For current class formats, intake dates and how to apply, see the courses below or visit the College's own website.

Our mission

The College states its purpose plainly:

Affiliated with a recognised university

The College is affiliated with the Buddhist & Pali University of Sri Lanka, which awards its Diploma and degree qualifications. In the College's words, “its degrees are internationally recognised and the university is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities.”

Courses offered

The College runs courses across four levels. Syllabus, entry requirements, fees and current intake dates are published and kept up to date on the College's own website, the cards below link there.

A Diploma in Buddhism taught in Chinese is also offered, registration for the current (3rd) intake is on the College site at bpc.edu.sg/dipc.html. Please treat all dates as indicative and confirm them on bpc.edu.sg.
