Good company on the path

A young adults group is simply good company on the path, friends around the same age who practise, serve, and spend time together.

The Buddha spoke of kalyāṇa-mittatā (spiritual friendship, the companionship of those who help one another toward what is wholesome) as being not half of the holy life, but the whole of it. A group for young adults is that idea made ordinary and weekly: people at a similar stage of life, studying, starting work, finding their feet, who keep each other close to the Dhamma without it ever feeling heavy.

The intention is threefold, and gentle: friendship and time together; service to the temple and the wider community, in the spirit of dāna (generosity, giving freely and without expectation); and learning to practise, meditation, reflection, and the teachings, in a way that fits a younger, busier life. You need no background in Buddhism to belong, and no commitment beyond turning up.

When and where we gather

The group meets at the temple, 30 Jalan Eunos, Singapore 419495. The grounds and Shrine Hall are open daily, from 7am to 9.30pm, and the office is staffed on Sunday mornings, 10am to 1pm, the easiest time to ask about the group in person.

Young adults, whoever feels they belong here.

The group is for young adults, whether you were raised in a Buddhist family or are meeting the Dhamma for the first time, whether you can come every week or only now and then. No experience of meditation is assumed, and there is nothing to sign. Come once to see how it feels; come back when it suits you.

If you're unsure whether the group is the right fit, or whether you fall within the age it's meant for, the surest way to find out is to ask. Call the office, or come by on a Sunday and mention the young adults group at reception.

There are no forms and no fees. While this page is being prepared, the way to take part is to let us know you're interested, by phone, or in person on a Sunday morning, and we'll tell you what's happening and when the group next meets.
