Basic Meditation
An introduction to meditation for those starting out or returning to a regular sit.
Practice
Every member and visitor is welcome to meditate in the Shrine Hall during our opening hours, and if you'd like guidance, our teachers hold regular classes, always free of charge. If you can, join the pūjā (a service of devotion) before you sit.
You don't need to book, to pay, or to belong. The Shrine Hall is open every day for quiet meditation, come as you are, and sit as long as you like.
All members and devotees are welcome to meditate in the Shrine Hall during the temple's opening hours. If you're able to, do join the pūjā (a service of devotion) before you begin, it's a gentle way to settle before a longer sit. New to what happens at a pūjā? See What to Expect.
Meditation and classes are always free of charge.
Classes begin with the foundations, learning to sit comfortably and to bring steady, gentle attention to the breath, and build from there towards mindfulness practice for those who continue. Both Basic Meditation and Mindfulness Meditation are taught this way, guided in person by our resident teachers.
Newcomers are always welcome, no experience is needed to join. If you're coming for the first time, or aren't sure which class suits you, see Not sure where to start? below.
Alongside open sitting, our resident teachers, each addressed as Bhante (Venerable, a term of respect for a monk), hold guided classes through the week. They're free, and suit both newcomers and returning practitioners. Term dates change through the year, so do call to confirm the current intake before you come.
