The temple
Privacy notice
This page explains what personal information Mangala Vihara collects through this website, why we collect it, who sees it and how long we keep it. It is written to meet Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA).
We ask for as little as we can. Nothing on this website requires you to create an account, and you can read every page without telling us anything about yourself.
What we collect, and when
We only collect personal information when you choose to send it to us through one of the four forms on this website.
- Contact us — your name, email address, the topic you choose, your subject line and your message.
- Volunteer with us — your name, email address and contact number, and, if you choose to tell us, your gender, occupation and the kinds of help that interest you.
- Register for an event or course — your name, email address, phone number, the event or course, and any notes you add.
- Request a donation receipt — your name, email address, the date of your gift, and optionally your contact number and the last four digits of the account you gave from. We never ask for a full bank account number, and you should never send one.
Our web host keeps ordinary server logs, which include the internet address of visitors. These are kept by the host for technical and security purposes and are not used by the temple to identify anyone.
Why we collect it
Only to answer you. A message sent through a form is used to reply to that message, to arrange the volunteering or registration you asked about, or to issue the receipt you requested. We do not use it for anything else.
Who sees it
When you send a form, the message is emailed to the person at the temple who handles that subject, and a copy is stored on this website so that nothing is lost if an email goes astray. Both are seen only by temple staff and volunteers who need to act on your message.
We do not sell your information, we do not share it with other organisations, and we do not use it to send you anything you did not ask for.
How long we keep it
Twenty-four months. Messages sent through the forms are deleted after two years. We keep them that long because a volunteering offer or a receipt request sometimes needs to be traced back a year or more after it was sent.
Cookies and tracking
This website sets no advertising or tracking cookies, and uses no analytics service. Fonts and all other files are served from our own website, so browsing these pages does not tell any other company that you were here.
WordPress, which runs this site, may set a small number of essential cookies if a member of temple staff logs in to manage the site. Ordinary visitors are not given cookies.
Your rights
Under the PDPA you may ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it if it is wrong, and withdraw your consent for us to keep it. We will act on any such request within a reasonable time and at no charge.
How to reach us about your information
Our Data Protection Officer is [temple to supply: name and role], who can be reached at:

Changes to this notice
If we change how we handle personal information, we will update this page and change the date below. If a change is significant we will say so plainly rather than quietly amending the wording.
